Michael D.R. Bilyeu
The Sports Massage of Portland was founded in Eugene, Oregon in 1993 (formerly the Sports Massage of Eugene) and moved to Portland in January of 1997.
My clientele have included recreational to national and world-class athletes competing at National Championship, World Championship and Olympic levels. In addition, I have worked with professional dancers, musicians and with a chiropractor for a period time working with auto accident victims. In 2003 Sports Massage of Portland combined with Wind Water Herbs Acupuncture and Herbal Pharmacy.
My background in athletics has assisted me in my work with athletes helping to understand the biomechanics that take place while performing relative activities, and personally experiencing a number of injuries that I often sees in my clinic. I was a competitive runner in high school, college and at a national/international level for 20 years. In addition, I played soccer for 9 years year-round through high school, ice hockey for 5 years, baseball for 6 years, football or 3 years, and trained swimming and on a road bike as alternative training for competitive running and for a triathlon. My athletic experiences along with coaching middle school track and high school cross-country helps me to understand the psychology of my active clients and their desire to remain active if possible even through injury, while understanding when enough is enough and where a rest break must be taken for the healing process to take place.
